History of the RQW Tag Team Championship
Posted on
In 2007, Real Quality Wrestling established the RQW Tag Team Championship due to the emergence of talented tag teams on the British wrestling circuit. The inaugural RQW Tag Team Champions were crowned in the summer, but a tournament to crown the first titleholders got underway earlier the year, with the first round started in January.
Team Charming—the duo of cruiserweight Jack Storm and heavyweight Dave Moralez—won the titles in the finals of the tournament on July 11, 2007 in Dartford, Kent when they defeated the pairing known as the The Hated Heros, former FWA stalwarts Andy Boy Simmonz and L T Summers.
In 2008, a cult-like faction known as The Damned Nation began terrorising British professional wrestling organisations, and Real Quality Wrestling was no exception. The Damned Nation made their presence known immediately, when the duo of Dragon Aisu and Majik captured the RQW Tag Team Championship on January 13, 2009 in Northfleet, Kent.
The Damned Nation's reign of terror came to an end on April 26, 2008 when The Thrillers (Mark Haskins and Joel Redman) defeated Majik and Jon Cameron, representing The Damned Nation, at the SENI expo in London.
After The Thrillers' win, it was announced that the RQW Tag Team Championship would be unified with the tag team titles of IPW:UK. Unfortunately, The Thrillers wouldn't enter this new era as titleholders as they lost a unification against IPW:UK Tag Team Champions, The Kartel a month later on May 4 in Bromley, Kent.
