History of the RQW Cruiserweight Championship

Posted on

Now known as the British Cruiserweight Championship and defended in Real Quality Wrestling member organisation IPW:UK, the title got its start in Real Quality Wrestling in 2007 as the RQW Cruiserweight Championship.

Bubblegum holds the honour of being the first holder of the RQW Cruiserweight Championship, defeating prolific Irish cruiserweight Red Vinny on January 12, 2007 at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London. The two would meet again two months later at York Hall, but Bubblegum would not be so lucky as Red Vinny left with the belt on March 23.

Red Vinny's next challenge to his RQW Cruiserweight Championship would come to him on his doorstep in Ireland, when current TNA Wrestling X Division star Mark Haskins challenged Red Vinny for the strap in Enniscorthy. After nearly two years as champion, Mark Haskins captured the title from Red Vinny on December 6, 2008.

Although Haskins' reign wouldn't last nearly as long as Red Vinny's (being apprehended of the strap on April 8, 2009 at an IPW:UK in Selsey, Sussex), Haskins would become the first (and to date, only) person to hold the championship twice. Haskins re-captured the title a mere seven days after losing it, going on to have a more lengthy reign as champion.
